Band Booking and the DJ Battle

Posted by admin in Services on 05 12th, 2011 | no responses

With your wedding day quickly approaching, you may find yourself doing a lot of purchasing. Deposits for flowers, cake, caterers, tuxedos, and numerous other wedding specialties will have you feeling like your wallet is having severe arterial bleeding. But one thing that you can make a wise purchase on is the entertainment for your special day. Now, wise does not always mean cheap, so make it worth your every penny to explore the possibilities for your wedding entertainment.

The first question to settle right from the beginning is, “Band or DJ?” Both should be able to provide you with approximately four hours of music, including your wedding song, and a few brief announcements during your wedding reception. A band will usually cost more than a disc jockey, and if it does not, raise questions. There are obviously more people needing to get paid in a band, whereas a dj usually just has his or her self to cover. Bands usually require more equipment, so travel and setup expenses are a bit higher.

Usually, wedding bands will cover a large selection of music. In that sense they are comparable to a disc jockey; but wedding bands will often play songs with their own signature style attached, and may not sound like an exact copy of the album version of your favorite song. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. Fortunately for you, most wedding bands will offer a demo recording or video, or even play you some tunes at their rehearsal space so that you can accurately assess the quality you will be receiving.

Wedding bands are best known for providing that “live” factor that disc jockeys simply cannot replicate. Remember though, while you may be trying to rearrange your budget for the entire wedding, don’t skimp out if you are booking a band for wedding. After all, you get what you pay for.
